    The idea of establishing a Media Education institution was strongly promoted, and the M. S. University of Baroda established the Faculty of Journalism and Communication in 1992. It first offered a one-year post-graduate Bachelors in Journalism and Communication (BCJ) programme, which was replaced by a four-semester Masters in Communication Studies (MCS) programme five years later, in 1997. This program's name has recently been changed to Master in Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC)

    India's internationally renowned The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (1949) has blossomed from the Baroda College (1881) which is one of the oldest centers of learning in western India. MSU is the only state University with a residential, unitary character having English as sole medium of instruction with more than 1200 well-qualified faculty members and 1500 administrative staff to facilitate the learning of more than 35000 students having cosmopolitan life on campus.

    The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda has one of the largest Hostel Campuses in western India. 12 Boys Hostels and 4 Girls Hostels are spread over an area of approximately 100 acres. All the students residing in the hostels are provided with minimum facilities like a bed, a cupboard, a table and a chair in the room individually. All the hostels are equipped with In every Hostel automatic gas fired hot water boilers facility, which provides hot water during the winter season. Hostels are also equipped with a dining hall, a common hall, a Mike system facility, etc.
