About Us

1920
- The Revolutionary Committee and the First Congress of Soviets of the Chuvash Autonomous Region proposed establishing a university in
  Cheboksary, but the plan was not implemented.
1930
- Faculty of History and Philology opened at the Chuvash State Pedagogical Institute, later becoming part of Chuvash State University.
1958–1959
- The idea of founding Chuvash State University was reconsidered, but postponed due to limited resources and lack of academic staff.
1961
- Volga Branch of the Moscow Order of Lenin Power Engineering Institute was established.
- It absorbed the Cheboksary branch of the A. A. Zhdanov Gorky Polytechnic Institute.
1967
- 17 August 1967: USSR Council of Ministers Resolution No. 796 approved the establishment of the university.
- 21 August 1967: RSFSR Council of Ministers Resolution No. 631 confirmed the decision.
- 1 September 1967: Chuvash State University officially established on the basis of the Volga branch of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute.
- 30 November 1967: University named after Ilya Nikolaevich Ulyanov, prominent Russian educator.
1968–1969
- Faculty of Physics and Mathematics opened.
- The General Technical Faculty became the foundation for future Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering faculties.
Late 1960s
- University operated 8 faculties, 45 departments, and trained specialists in 15 specialties (23 specializations).
- Enrollment exceeded 5,000 students across full-time, evening, and correspondence programs.
- Library holdings reached 100,000 volumes; laboratories, dormitories, workshops, and a computer center were established.
- Kazan State University supported the university by sending 2 doctors and 10 candidates of science.
1967–1981
- Professor Semyon Fedorovich Saikin, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, served as the first rector.
- Professor S. A. Abrukov appointed Vice-Rector for Research.
- A. K. Arakelyan appointed Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.
July 1981
- Professor P. A. Sidorov appointed as the second rector.
- Significant expansion of infrastructure, including construction of a new academic building.
December 1990
- Professor Lev Panteleimonovich Kurakov, Doctor of Economics, became rector following a competitive selection.
January 2010
- Professor Vsevolod Georgievich Agakov appointed rector by order of the Federal Agency for Education.
December 2013
- Minister of Education and Science D. V. Livanov approved Andrey Yuryevich Aleksandrov as rector for the term 2014–2019.
December 2018
- Andrey Yuryevich Aleksandrov re-elected rector for a six-year term and confirmed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia.
April 2024
- Chuvash State University included in the national strategic program “Priority-2030” under the “Science and Universities” project.
