1932: Inauguration of Dagestan State Medical Institute (DSMI) with an aim to train medical aspirants for Dagestan and the North Caucasus.
1940s–1960s: Post war priority was to strengthen academic and clinical foundations along with a research base.
1970s–1980s: Major infrastructure expansion by constructing a teaching and laboratory complex and morphology building.
Moreover, operations at dental and pediatric units started. Late 20th Century: Participation in medical research programs under
the Ministry of Health of Russia made students and staff earn national recognition.
1995: Retitled as an academy owing to national rankings of medical universities.
2000s–2010s: Developed Intellectual Property Rights system and an electronic database for it. As per the annual data, 80+
patents for inventions, 80+ utility model certificates and 60+scientific developments were exhibited. On 9 distinct topics research
commenced. 166 dissertations were recorded ( 32 doctoral + 134 candidate dissertations)
2016: Earned university status and renamed as Dagestan State Medical University (DSMU).
Recently: Launched Faculty of Pharmacy as well as Faculty of Preventive Medicine. 60+ teaching material, 260+ licensed teaching
tools and 101 monographs. DSMU offers 5 faculties, 75 departments, 40+ clinical bases. Hence, 27,000+ graduates are having successful
professional careers in Russia and across the globe. -
