About Us

1899
- 9 July 1899: Emperor Nicholas II issued a decree to open the Oriental Institute in Vladivostok, the first classical higher education institution in
  Eastern Siberia and the Far East.
- 21 October 1899: Oriental Institute was officially inaugurated; Alexei Pozdneev appointed as the first Rector.
1918
- With the support of the Oriental Institute, a Department of History and Philology and a Higher Polytechnic College were opened.
1920
- Oriental Institute and several private institutions were merged to form State Far Eastern University.
1930
- State Far Eastern University was reorganized.
- Independent universities were created, including Far Eastern State University and Kuibyshev Far Eastern Polytechnical Institute (later FESTU).
1953
- Ussuriysk State Pedagogical Institute was established, tracing its roots to a women’s teaching seminary opened in 1909.
1956
- Far Eastern State University was restored.
1964
- Vladivostok Branch of the Plekhanov Moscow Institute of National Economy opened.
1968
- The branch was transformed into the Far Eastern Institute of Soviet Trade (FEIST).
1960–2010
- Rapid development of higher education in Primorsky Krai.
- New institutes, research centers, academic buildings, hostels, and laboratories were established, forming the basis of modern FEFU.
2004
- FEIST became the Pacific State University of Economics.
2010–2011
- Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) was established by merging four universities:
  
  Far Eastern National University
  
  Far Eastern State Technical University
  
  Pacific State University of Economics
  
  Ussuriysk State Pedagogical Institute
- The merger was approved by a Presidential decree.
2010
- Russian Government approved the FEFU Development Program until 2019.
2012
- The new FEFU campus hosted the APEC Summit.
- President Vladimir Putin presented a symbolic key to the campus to students.
2013
- FEFU Medical Center was commissioned, becoming the most advanced medical facility in the Russian Far East.
- FEFU joined the 5–100 Project to improve international competitiveness of Russian universities.
- First academic year began on the new FEFU campus.
- President Vladimir Putin congratulated students and faculty.
2014
- President Vladimir Putin visited the new FEFU Laboratory Building.
2015
- FEFU campus hosted the first Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).
2016
- Second EEF hosted over 2,500 participants from 28 countries.
- FEFU ranked in the 551–600 band of QS World University Rankings.
- Entered Top-100 in QS Emerging Europe & Central Asia and QS BRICS Rankings.
