1920: Inauguration of Terek Institute for National Education by introducing 2 faculties: Faculty of Society and History and Faculty of Physics and
Mathematics.1921: Institute was retitled as Highland Pedagogical Institute.
1922–1923: The institute was renamed again as Highland Practical Institute of Regional Education. Moreover, new departments were
established: Pedology and Education, Chemistry and Machinery, Physics and Technology and Humanities and Literature.
Specialization degree programs were launched.1938: Alliance of two institutes - Ossetia Education Institute and North Caucasus Education Institute, which led to renaming the institute as
North Ossetia State Education Institute. Also, in the USSR, it ranked as the 3rd higher education institution.1941–1945: Students, teachers, and staff joined the Red Army for World War II.
1969: Formally earned university title and was renamed as the North Ossetia State University (NOSU). It became the 40th university
established in the Soviet Union.Present:
