1935–1940
- 1935: Decision taken by the People’s Commissariat of Health (RSFSR) to create dental institutes in Russia.
- 1936: Leningrad State Dental Institute officially established.
- Institute located at 46 Nevsky Prospect, Leningrad.
- Started with 25 departments, 45 dental chairs, hospital facilities, and a 200-bed hostel.
- First intake: 150 students (4-year course).
- First Director: Associate Professor Z.B. Piryatinsky.
- Institute trained dentists in therapeutic, surgical, and orthopedic dentistry.
- Before World War II, 270 dentists graduated.
- Leading scientists published important textbooks and research works.
1941–1945 (World War II period)
- 1941: World War II began; students and doctors sent to the front.
- Teaching continued during the Siege of Leningrad.
- April 8, 1942: Institute evacuated to Krasnoyarsk.
- Faculty treated wounded soldiers and conducted research on war injuries.
- 1944: Institute returned to Leningrad after the siege ended.
- September 1945: Institute restored to its original independent status.
1949–1950
- 1949–1950: Course duration increased from 4 to 5 years.
- Student intake increased to 200 students.
- Institute renamed Leningrad Medical Dental Institute.
- R.I. Gavrilov appointed Head.
- Clinical facilities expanded to 65 dental chairs and 60 hospital beds.
- By this time, 1,512 dentists had been trained.
1954–1958
- July 10, 1954: Institute transferred from Leningrad to Kalinin.
- Renamed Kalinin State Medical Institute.
- R.I. Gavrilov became the first Director.
- 1955: New dental clinic opened with 75 dental chairs.
- 1957: First batch of 102 dentists graduated in Kalinin.
- 1958: First general medicine graduates.
1962–1974
- 1962: Started training foreign students from Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
- 1965: Academic Council received permission to award PhD degrees.
- 1972: Construction of a new theoretical building began.
- 1974: Regional clinical hospital with 1,100 beds became a training base.
1974–1986
- Institute became one of the leading medical universities in Russia.
- 1977: Large theoretical building with 2,400 seats opened.
- 1986: Celebrated 50 years, trained 12,680 doctors, including foreign graduates.
- Awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples.
1987–2008
- 1989: Faculty of Advanced Medical Studies opened.
- 1990: Pediatric Faculty established.
- 1994: University became Tver State Medical Academy.
- 1999: Doctoral programs launched.
- 2001: Faculty of Pharmacy opened.
- 2003: Faculty of Higher Nursing Education opened.
2011–2015
- 2011: Included in the Golden Book of St. Petersburg.
- 2013: Featured in Cambridge University Guide to Excellence.
- 2015: Renamed Tver State Medical University.
2018–2024
- 2018: Ranked among top medical universities in Russia by Forbes.
- 2023: Recognized in Moscow International University Ranking.
- 2024: Achieved high position in the National Aggregated Ranking.

- University has 6 faculties: Medical, Dental, Pediatric, Pharmacy, Clinical Psychology, Nursing.
