1988
- Ulyanovsk State University was established as a branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), one of the most prestigious
universities in Russia and the world.
1992
- The university began producing graduates who later built successful careers in science, business, and regional industries.
1995
- On December 17, 1995, by Decree No. 1268 of the President of the Russian Federation, the decision was made to establish
Ulyanovsk State University as an independent institution.
1996
- On January 8, 1996, the Government of the Russian Federation issued Decree No. 7 confirming the establishment of the university.
- On February 7, 1996, the State Committee for Higher Education issued Order No. 237, officially granting USU
the status of an independent university.
1999
- In September 1999, USU became a full member of the Eurasian Association of Universities.
- The university strengthened its international profile and expanded global academic cooperation.
2008
- In April 2008, USU successfully introduced a Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001 standards.
2009–2019
- The university regularly passed inspection audits of its Quality Management System in 2011, 2014, and 2017.
2011
- On May 27, 2011, by Order No. 1825 of the Ministry of Education and Science, the university was renamed the Federal State-Funded
Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education “Ulyanovsk State University.”
2015
- On October 29, 2015, by Order No. 1251, the university was renamed the
Federal State-Funded Educational Institution of Higher Education “Ulyanovsk State University.”
2017
- In April 2017, USU won a national competition and received the status of Flagship University of the Ulyanovsk Region.
- In December 2017, the university was recognized as a center for innovative, technological, and social development of the region.
- The university’s Charter was approved later in December 2018, regulating its official activities.
2018
On December 24, 2018, the university’s Charter was approved by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
2020
- USU became a member of the interregional Research and Education Center “Engineering of the Future.”
- The center’s program ranked first in a national competitive selection.
- A new Training and Laboratory Building No. 6 was put into operation.
- By this year, the university had developed a campus covering over 75 hectares with buildings totaling more than 200,000 sq. meters.
- From 1988 to 2020, the university produced over 60,000 graduates.
- Quality Management System recertification was successfully completed.
Present Day
- USU educates over 13,000 students, including 7,000+ full-time students.
- More than 2,000 international students from 43 countries study at the university.
